High Electric Usage Checklist
You may want to check or have your electrician check the following items before you contact us to ensure they are functioning properly. One or more of these items, if in use or not properly functioning may cause increased electric usage.
Appliances and Electronics
- Do you have outdated appliances or appliances that are going out?
- An old refrigerator or freezer in use?
- Electronics that are constantly on?
- Lighting
- Do you have energy efficient bulbs?
- Space heaters
- Outdoor heating elements (roof strips, gutter tape, etc.)
- Diesel truck
- Camp trailer/battery maintenance
- Pool or hot tub
- Air conditioner
- Medical equipment
- Added people in your household

Morgan City Electric Department will assist homeowners by giving notice of potential problems when possible; however, the City’s accountability for the electric stops at the electric meter. Homeowners are responsible for the cost and electric usage, costs related to identifying problems and/or repair costs.
